George Moehrle started in the masonry trade as a laborer in 1972. He learned to stock, build scaffold, mix mud, and operate light to heavy equipment before becoming an apprentice, mason, and eventually a commercial masonry foreman. While working as a mason he attended Frederick Community College and then Hood College where he graduated as an economics major in 1982. He started the Company in 1985 with what one banker laughably but accurately described as “a negative net worth”, a handful of his previous crew, and the assistance and support of his wife, Dana. G. Moehrle Masonry, Inc. is named in honor of his grandfather and began by doing masonry repair work, residential jobs, and small commercial projects. The company quickly grew as it acquired a reputation for successful completion of ever larger and more complex projects. George attributes his success to hard work, forethought, a little luck and the blessing of being taught, trained, inspired, and just working alongside of the kind of people who’ve made him look good even when he deserved to look bad.
George serves as the company’s chief executive performing administrative and project management oversight, strategic planning, estimating, investment, marketing, and other duties. George is the proud father of Joe, Kayleigh, and Mark. He resides in Frederick, Maryland with Dana and enjoys motorcycling and fishing in his spare time.
